My Blog Title

Yesterday I received some surprising feedback on the title of my blog and I must admit it was rather unwelcome.

For almost two years I have been listening to, reading and studying just about everything I could get my hands on with regard to one of the greatest and certainly the oldest living self-help guru, Bob Proctor of the Proctor/Gallagher Institute. He is, hands down, my greatest mentor and the person I aspire to be most like.

A couple of months ago I signed up for a program called Online MSI’s with Bob and another great, Peggy McColl, a bestselling author and online entrepreneur. The program consists of 3 solid days of live online training webinars with both Bob and Peggy, all recorded followed by monthly 90 minute ‘calls’ for six months. During all of these calls, we participants are able to communicate directly with Bob and Peggy either by entering questions in the chat box or ‘raising’ our virtual hands to speak directly to them. (It is VERY cool!)

We had our first follow-up call yesterday during which I was eager to report my success so far in having resurrected my long-lost blog and told them that I had also purchased the dot com for it from GoDaddy as well. The response from both of them as to the title for my blog was a unanimous no-go. They both thought it was too negative.

Having struggled with some personal reaction to this negative feedback, I am stubbornly sticking with the title for now but am keeping an open mind about its possible inappropriate connotations. Any outside feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am also trying to insert a survey question from Survey Monkey somewhere on this page, if I can figure it out!

Ironically, I remember a story that Bob told about his early days in the self-development industry, as he was thinking about striking out on his own. He made a recording of his own voice giving a lesson. He brought it to a friend to listen to and asked for feedback. The response was less than enthusiastic. As he drove away from his friend’s house feeling embarrassed he suddenly realized that he was allowing his friend’s opinion to ‘steal his dream’ as he put it. Today, one must invest considerable money to listen to Bob Proctor speak! J

Another irony is that I am also involved in the Bob Proctor Coaching Program and right now we are studying a concept called “Self Image”. This is the basis for Bob and Peggy’s disagreement with my title, ‘Spinnin’ My Wheelz’ and why they believe it has negative connotations. It sounds like I am getting nowhere in life, right? But it’s all a matter of perspective, another great concept. As I see it, and as the sub-title clearly qualifies, ‘A Journey About Gaining Traction’, I did START OUT spinning my wheels in so many ways in life and, as the expression on my fancy pink Cadillac also clearly indicates, I am making progress with a vengeance of determination!

I remember a time long ago...I drove an old ’68 Pontiac Bonneville...a great big, beautiful boat of a car and the year was circa 1976. That baby guzzled gas like a parched poacher! I had gone to the Susquehanna County Fair in Harford, PA that year; for the first time without my parents and parked the car in an area where we’d always parked; on the grass, on a slope, above the town’s ‘highway’. It rained. A lot. When it was time to leave, naturally, the car could not simply drive out of the space. At first I was afraid that I’d have to abandon the car for the night and although I did have some help from nearby observers and a friend, I was the one behind the wheel of that car and I gunned the hell out of it! Everybody was covered in mud but...I succeeded! It was one of those little triumphal moments that one will always remember throughout life...a symbol of determination, if you will.

So...that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it!

Best wishes for a great day!
Cindy Hurd
